What is KNX ?

KNX is a building automation protocol — not a device, not a brand, but a standard. Just like Wi-Fi is a protocol that allows a Samsung TV, an iPhone, and a laptop to communicate on the same network, KNX is a protocol that allows devices from over 500 manufacturers to communicate together and form a complete smart building solution.
KNX is managed and supervised by the KNX Association, which certifies that every device carrying the KNX logo meets the standard and is compatible with all other certified devices.

KNX Vs Conventional Wiring

In a conventional installation, the load (lamp) is connected directly to the switch. If you want to change which switch controls which lamp, you must physically pull new cables.
In a KNX installation, the load is connected to an actuator, and the keypad is connected to the KNX bus. The relationship between the keypad button and the lamp is programmed in software (ETS). This means:
• You can change any function without pulling a single new cable.
• One button can control multiple rooms.
• Adding a new keypad only requires connecting it to the KNX bus.
