With over 500 KNX manufacturers in the market, choosing the right brand is a critical decision. Evaluate every brand on these five criteria:

Actuator Selection Step by Step
The actuator is the most important device to select correctly because the client never sees it — it lives inside the electrical panel. Getting it wrong affects the entire system.
Step 1: Identify the Load Type What are you controlling? Lighting (on/off, dimming, DALI, RGB), HVAC (fan coil, split unit, VRF), or blinds/shutters? Each load type requires a different actuator.
Step 2 Count Your Circuits (Channels) How many independent circuits do you need to control? For example: 13 lighting circuits = 13 channels. You can use one 16-channel actuator or two 8-channel actuators.
Step 3 Calculate the Load per Circuit Add up the total wattage on each circuit. For example: 10 lamps × 50W = 500W per circuit. Your actuator must be rated to handle this load safely.
Step 4 Choose the Right Size Larger actuators (16-channel) are efficient but create a single point of failure. Smaller actuators (8-channel) give you redundancy — if one fails, you can redistribute loads to the other while you wait for a replacement. Always keep a spare actuator on-site for critical projects.
